"The Lester Eastman Conference on High Performance Devices has highlighted the physics and performance of devices and circuits for high-speed, high- frequency, high-power, and ultra-low-power devices, as well as optoelectronics and other emerging material and device technologies for more than 2 decades."

The 2025 Lester Eastman Conference on High Performance Devices will be held August 11-13, 2025, at the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL USA. As in previous years, the technical program will encompass innovative device concepts, materials breakthroughs, and advances in transport phenomena to realize the next generation of novel devices. The conference will emphasize in particular a discussion of how high-performance device technology is advanced, in addition to highlighting specific results. Topics of submission typically include but are not limited to the following areas:

  • High frequency devices: RF, microwave, and millimeter-wave transistors, diodes and detectors, and other high-frequency device concepts.
  • Power devices: high power and high voltage transistors, diodes, and other components for power electronics applications, including advanced device design and processing.
  • Optoelectronic devices: optical emitters and detectors for communication and sensing, LEDs for solid state lighting and communication, high-efficiency photovoltaics, and other optoelectronic device concepts.
  • Emerging devices: devices based on new semiconductor materials and physical phenomena, including but not limited to: piezoelectric resonators, ferroelectric devices, electro-optical modulators, quantum devices, bioelectronics, and chemical/biological sensors.

For the 2025 conference, we will feature sessions on device technologies for electronics in extreme environments. Some examples of “extreme environments” include high temperature environments (>300C, focused on 500-800C), cryogenic temperatures (4K to 77K), radiation environments (including space and nuclear reactors), high electric field and/or power density (such as those experienced by WBG/UWBG devices), and harsh chemical environments. There is a large body of work in the community in recent years due to substantial investment by DARPA, DoD MURI, and CHIPS Act initiatives which will be highlighted by program managers and technical performers. The focus sessions will include both technical discussion as well as industry presentations on advances in equipment solutions.
